THE BRIEF

We were asked to provide a marquee to help create a luxurious and personalised wedding experience for 110 dining guests set in the stunning Norton Grounds, Gloucestershire.

Our custom solution included an upgrade 3m leg, with clear roof over reception area and star cloth ceiling over the dance floor. A separate entrance marquee was built with clear roof, decking flooring and seating for guests to relax. Also supplied was a catering marquee, power and loos.

THE PLANS

Bespoke design and thoughtful consideration to the guest experience is key to planning any of our marquees. In this case our plans featured a 12m x 27m (3m leg) marquee to comfortably accommodate banquet style dining for 110 guests.

A round fabric wrapped feature bar under a clear roof reception area and a separate dance floor hidden behind a reveal curtain provided elements of surprise and intimate gathering spaces. While the dance floor lighting package and on-site supervisor for the event ensured guests could celebrate into the night.

THE BUILD

Unique to this wedding, the entrance marquee was set back to allow for a floral arch and romantic festoon walkway.

Le Manoir Aux Quat’ Saisons

TO DISCUSS YOUR EVENT

Our friendly team are here to help answer questions about how a marquee can work for your forthcoming wedding or event.

THE BRIEF

Our client approached us with a need for a very contemporary and highly stylish ceremony marquee for their wedding at the famous Le Manoir Aux Quat Saisons.  Not only did the marquee need to accommodate their wedding ceremony, but to also convert to an ultra-modern evening marquee for the band, bar area and dance floor for guests to enjoy. No expense was spared!

THE PLANS

The specification was to have a clear marquee, sometimes called a ‘Glass Marquee’, with a 3m leg (normally 2.3m leg) to create more height for the 4 crystal chandeliers and roof drapes.  To create the glass marquee effect we included clear roofs with a fairy light canopy throughout, clear gables at both ends, and solid glass window walls.

The daytime ceremony area was transformed into an evening dance floor with a luxurious ‘mirrored’ theme, created by adding a silver mirror finish to the dance floor, bar and tables.

THE BUILD

The marquee was 9m x 18m and included a decking canopy to the front entrance.  We also installed discreet heaters due to the time of year.

Due to the venue having other events we were given a very tight build time (only a few hours) for the install and de-rig.  With the exceptional organisation skills of the Marquees and Pavilions team this was not an issue.

THE TEAM

We liaised directly with the venue team and our clients wedding planner, Isobel Lamplough Weddings, who co-ordinated and supplied the interior linings, flowers, dance floor, bar and furniture to achieve this amazing bespoke wedding marquee. Marquee interiors specialist, Crescent Moon, supplied and created the fabulous internal fabric roof drapes.

THE BRIEF

There was a “Studio 54” theme for this 21st Birthday Party at a private residence in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.  A marquee was required for 120 guests for dining, dancing, bar, live band & DJ area and soft seating area.

The client needed power from a generator, luxury loos and an additional catering tent.

Nightclub Marquee with Black & White Dance Floor

THE PLANS

The marquee was built on the lawn adjacent to the house with an entrance pavilion including poseur tables as guests entered into the party marquee.

To create a nightclub feel, we installed a black out roof & wall lining, mirrored cocktail bar, black & white dance floor with multiple mirror disco balls, coloured uplighters & profiles with break-up gobos.  We used clear acrylic dining chairs and the soft seating area included LED illuminate cube seats.

THE BUILD

The marquee was 12m x 21m which took us 2 days to build.  The first day we laid the wooden floor and main structure and second day involved finishing the interior, roof & wall linings, positioning of furniture.

We provided outside lighting to illuminate the pathway to the loos, which were positioned to the side of the house.

THE BRIEF

A summer wedding reception for 200 guests with separate spaces for reception drinks and dining and dancing.

The event needed a generator to supply power, heating, outdoor lighting, a kitchen marquee and loos.

light colour style for a marquee wedding

THE PLANS

The client had a lawn by a pond which was not large enough to host the entire event. We built a smaller reception marquee opening onto this lawn and then a covered walkway leading into the dining room in the adjoining paddock.

The interior was classic, a little bit vintage, and very “sparkly”. The dining room was screened off so as not to spoil the surprise.

wedding presents and mirror in a marquee

THE BUILD

This marquee was quite large and we did not have vehicle access to the paddock once the build started. This meant bringing a lot of equipment across the lawn by hand. One the first day we built the large marquee in the paddock, and on the second day we worked on the reception marquee and on the finishing touches.

Because the dining room was concealed the loos could not be positioned in the paddock without guests walking through the dining room. In consultation with the client we agreed a position that didn’t encroach on the reception area but wasn’t too far for guests to walk.

THE BRIEF

The bride needed outside canopies for the wedding ceremony, a children’s entertainer and for a paella to be prepared.

The main marquee needed to seat 120 at large rectangular tables and have a separate space for a dance floor area.

open air pavilion for wedding ceremony

THE PLANS

The bride wanted the wedding to have a whimsical vintage feel. Guests entered the venue through a small wooden door into the walled garden, and we build the ceremony space from two peaked roof pavilions.

The main marquee covered the old tennis court and was positioned to hide the surface of the remainder of the court from the guests. The marquee had large crystal chandeliers and refectory style seating. The dance floor was concealed behind a curtain of florists ribbon.

marquee floor plan

THE BUILD

The marquee was installed on a tennis court. Tennis courts provide an open, level surface, but do also have draw backs as a marquee site. You need to consider how the structure can be secured if it cannot be staked to the ground, and you need to install a wooden floor to stand clear of any rain water run off and give you a good surface to install a carpet to.

The walled garden site at Nether Winchendon House is one we know very well and have worked through the technical and logistical issues.

Classic wedding style with ivory pleated lining, summer flowers and lots of natural light.

table decorations in a wedding marquee

THE PLANS

We used the interior lining to create the impression of two rooms within the main structure. This was a large wedding so we needed to allow enough standing reception space for all the guests in the event of wet weather. The bar/reception area had a separate chill-out annex and led through to the dining area.

The main marquee had clear gables on both ends and lots of windows to maximise the natural light and give the space a light and airy feel.

The loos were built into another structure which also housed a kitchen space for the caterers.

THE BUILD

THE BRIEF

Wedding for 220-240 guests which required marquees for reception/bar area, dining, Taxi photo booth, Cigar lounge, built-in loos and kitchen area for the caterers.

The client wanted a clean, contemporary style for the wedding. The site was the rear lawn of a private property.

minimalistic bar in a themed marquee

THE PLANS

We designed the main marquee to be internally partitioned into two separate spaces for the bar/dancing and dining areas. Two lining wall panels were removed, either side of the stage, so that the dining room was revealed after reception drinks.

We used separate structures to create space for the taxi photo booth, cigar lounge and loos/catering areas. The main marquee was finished with a flat white lining for a crisp, modern feel whilst the cigar lounge has a black out lining for a contrasting style. The wedding planner arranged clear acrylic chairs, mirrored table tops and contemporary floral displays to complete the look.

Use of coloured lighting, washed into the white flat lining, created a completely different atmosphere for the evening party.

THE BUILD

Given the complexity of the job, and the additional contractors on site, we started early in the week and spread the build over three days.

Access to the site was difficult, so we brought in a forklift for the duration of the build.

The client had a large 3-phase electrical supply installed so that a generator was not necessary.

THE BRIEF

A party to celebrate 50th and a 21st birthdays in one, with a summer festival feel. Around 200 people came many camping in luxurious tepees. The marquee would be used for dancing, two bars and a separate lounge area, and also a variety of food stalls.

The whole event happened in a field adjoining the clients house. There were additional marquees for catering and food service and for the built in mobile toilets. The marquee included heating.  The generator and electrical distribution was handled by the production company.

outdoor lights with a nightclub themed marquee

THE PLANS

The interior finish was intended to give a pop-up nightclub feel and be suitable for both a 50th and a 21st. A large main space was dressed with blackout linings and a star cloth ceiling. This would house the stage and dance floor and plenty of seating scattered around. Food stations were placed in small adjoining marquees so that they could be screened off when not in use. There were bars in the main marquee and in a separate chill-out lounge.

The marquee was installed with a clear gable end and was positioned to face a copse of large trees which were decoratively lit.

marquee floor plan

THE BUILD

We pre-delivered a lot of the materials and where then able to build most of the marquee in a day. Siting the mobile loos and finishing the cloak room around them meant a small crew returned the following day.

Because the structures were in the middle of a flower meadow we had to be careful to work in a confined space and not create a trampled area around the site. This made vehicle access, in particular siting the loos, a particular challenge on this site.

The event was managed by Mask Events who also organised the various caterers and entertainment acts.

THE BRIEF

This marquee was for a 21st birthday party with around 120 guests. Marquee spaces allowed for a reception area / dance floor, a dining room, a kitchen area and built in loos.

The site had a large power supply so didn’t require a generator, but did require electrical distribution and heating.

African savanna decorations in themed party marquee

THE PLANS

One large marquee was partitioned to create four distinct spaces. An entrance pavilion with decking lead into the reception area. Beyond the reception area was a dining room with the loos and the catering area built in to the far end of the marquee.

The reception area had starcloth roof lining and brushwood walls. We installed a coffee carpet and a black dance floor.

The coffee carpet continued into the dining room, were the roof and wall lining changed to ivory. We used a lot of coloured lighting to create a sunset colour wash across the linings in this area.

marquee floor plan

THE BUILD

The marquee was built over two days, with the first day being given over to building the structure, floor and internal partitioning. On the second day the marquee lining, lighting and electrical distribution was installed.

Because the loos were built into the marquee, we had to build the structure in such away that the trailer unit could be driven in and positioned. Once the loos were in situ we could seal off the end of the marquee and dress the cloak room and loos.

The marquee was situated a the lawn at the clients home and needed a kitchen marquee, a generator and electrical distribution, heating and loos.

THE PLANS

The marquee lawn was centred on a large fountain. We designed a symmetrical set of marquees either side of the fountain with walkways between them such that the fountain became part of a central courtyard.

We put a dining room, with a classic wedding finish, in one of the marquee, and a nightclub room in the other. The dining room was open on three sides and had ivory pleated linings, chandeliers and a nut carpet.

The nightclub area had black carpet and blackout linings. The central stage had a fairy light curtain backdrop. There was a black dance floor and illuminated bar and poseur tables.

THE BUILD

This marquee was installed in a single day, however the components for the wooden floor where delivered to site in advance of the build.

The crew build the flooring for all of the structure first to ensure complete symmetry around the fountain. They then split into two teams and worked on one main structure and one cloistered walkway each.

Access to the site was through a narrow gate from a small country lane, and then across a field and some more lawns. We installed ground guards to project the lawn from damage.

SUMMARY

All of the examples in this section are of our own work, which we hope will give you some inspiration for your event. Looking at past events can help to establish what you like, and don’t like, to develop a clear picture of your requirements. At this stage some people choose to employ a wedding or party planner to bring all of their ideas together into a coherent brief.

Whilst every event is completely bespoke, this section aims to outline how we interpret a brief, the equipment we suggest and a guide to the costs. We try to be clear about what we provided and what was supplied by the client, party planner or other contractors.

THE BRIEF

This marquee was built for a birthday party with around 180 guests. Guests used the house and patio in addition to a complex of marquees for reception drinks, bar and lounge, and dining and dancing.

The event also required heating, power, loos and a kitchen marquee.

THE PLANS

We worked alongside a party planner and a specialist AV company to develop three distinct marquee spaces for the party.

The reception space, which was built over an olive tree, was open sided an lead out onto the patio. This marquee had a clear roof and was connect to the house. The dining room was finished in white with a fuchsia carpet and a festoon of different coloured paper lanterns. The bar area was finished in a blackout material with windows opening back on to the patio area.

THE BUILD

The build was spread over two days. The floor of the dining room was raised by about 40cm to bring it to the same level as the patio. On the first day the floor was constructed and the marquees were installed. On the second day we installed carpet, lining and the paper lantern lighting and worked alongside the AV company who handled rest of the lighting, the electrical distribution and sound equipment.

We only had vehicle access as far as the front of the house and all materials had to be brought around the house through a narrow passageway. The restricted access to the rear of the house meant positioning the loos, generator and refrigerated catering vehicles had to be carefully orchestrated.

THE PARTY

Marquees & Pavilions provided structures, flooring, lining and carpet for the event. We also supplied the loos and heaters.

The client asked Papillon Events to work as their event planner. Papillon brought in a specialist AV company to design the marquee lighting and to illuminate the garden and house.

Thyme Out Events handled the catering.
